Do you remember the Google Gears? A couple of years the Internet giant is presented as a solution for to run web applications without internet connection , giving sites like Gmail much more likely in an era in which Web applications were becoming so used as some desktop applications.
Now Google has announced that is not going to invest resources and time in developing new features for Gears . The direct consequence of the moment is that Gears will continue to see Internet Explorer and Firefox, but have given up efforts to integrate it into Safari.
Why? The culprit of all this is most HTML5 , the new web standard construction. HTML5 has proved able to perform the functions of Gears in a different way, and apparently Google has tended to follow the guidelines of the new standard and not continue working on his own application.
With this, Google will save having to develop an application for each browser and / or system and will include the progress of Gears on all browsers that support HTML5 without extra effort. Not to say that as the browsers of mobile devices also are supporting this standard, Google will kill two birds with one stone.
