The browser wars gives no respite. While users are gradually changing their preferences, individual companies are beginning to make their bets for future releases. Microsoft, in particular, is not prepared to lose more ground and letting IE’s market share slip away like that. Therefore, from already begun to to develop some ideas that could be implemented in Internet Explorer 9 .
Evidence of this is that a few months have seen a patent described in improvements in the management of browser tabs . Specifically, it discusses developments in the “Quick Tabs”, which was incorporated into IE version 7, and since then has received modifications (remember that “Quick Tabs” is a panel that shows thumbnails of all open tabs in IE).
The aim now is to allow the user reorder the tabs by dragging and dropping the thumbnails in this interface ; also to improve the usability, the thumbnails will increase in size when we move the mouse over them. Finally, every time we pass the mouse on a thumbnail that does not appear in the tab bar (because of that it is full), will see a button with an arrow indicating which way the tab is seek.
The March MIX’10 we’ll have more information about the future Internet Explorer 9.
