A few weeks ago we had a series of HTPCs that all had something in common: the boxes were needed short, that as much should measure 11 cm. high. One of the boxes that HTPCs assemble for such was the Chieftec HM-03.
As you can see in the photo above is a case of exceptionally large content. Its main features are:
– Height 11.5 cm. with legs. If we get stays of 10.5 cm.
– Width 44 cm.
– Depth 42 cm
– Material of Construction: all aluminum
– Display control on the front and imon including
– Support for Micro ATX boards
– Card reader on the front.
– Power supply not included, supports any standard ATX
– A gap of 5 1 / 2 and two external 3 1 / 2 internal
– Expansion Cards low-rise four.
Here we can see how the cash is raised through the legs and trim, that can be removed. We can see from here that has holes to allow better cooling. It is noteworthy that the box to be all aluminum is very light and allows heat from escaping out for the box. Does not become a HFX, but the cooling effect of the box itself is very interesting.
In this case we set bequiet 8cm fans. to help remove heat from within. A good performance and very low noise.
Here’s a detail of the front. We have the volume knob, the display, the power button and the reset. As I observed the front is made of aluminum like the rest of the box.

The display has a rather small point, but the limitations are the size of the box. Anyway, it fulfills its function.

On the other hand, are the DVD drive (in this case reader Blu-Rays) and the card reader and front USBs. Both are hidden inside the aluminum caps to match the rest of the case. So if you are not closed.
They are easy to open and stays within the same color and finish that does not clash. The card reader 51 soparta types.
When installing the system, interior space is well distributed and not too hard to put into the components.
Here is an overview of the box inside, there is left before the hard drive on your right reader Blu-Rays, and right above the power supply and left the plate and the processor.
Here is a detail of the power supply. In this case bequiet assemble a standard size.
A detailed hard disk, it looks like we have a 8cm fan. drawing warm air from this part of the box. Below the disc, there is a hole to install a second hard drive.
And here’s a detail of the processor. Leaving the official Intel heatsink. This is a Core i3 and saw no improvement if we changed a sink low. Keep in mind that the top of the box was a solid piece of aluminum, so we had no problems with heat buildup within the team and fans turned to a minimum.

In summary, the Chieftec HM-03, is a very nice box, with an excellent finish and ideal for low mounting height HTPC systems. Only find two hit it, one is its price is high, but you have to go in line with the material and completion. The other is the difficulty of getting it. It is a box that has a very low in Spain.
