Journalist

As part of an experiment, five French journalists held without access to the outside world except what they read in Twitter and Facebook . The journalists were isolated in a farmhouse in Perigord (France) without any other external source of information: no television, no radio, no press. His only contact with the everyday events will be through social networks .

A camera on the Net is an experiment to examine whether social networks aptly reflect what happens in the real world , by comparison with what appears in the media conventional. Participants will have limited Internet access. That is, may consult the links to other sources that appear on Facebook or Twitter, but can not go further, or check the online versions of newspapers consulted.

It seems a curious idea, but we must not lose sight of the subjective content of the information that is published in both platforms. While the mainstream media work by a preset agenda of economic, social and political information appearing on Twitter or Facebook is selected under other criteria, and replicated according to their popularity .

It will be interesting to discuss, completed the experiment, the discrepancy that exists between the conventional media reality, and social networks – a kind of People’s Choice . I believe that ultimately, we found no significant differences between what is said (after all, most shared links are from digital versions of newspapers are given), but in what information is most relevant to the netizen. What do you think of this initiative?
