A few days after breaking all sales records,

Activision Blizzard Inc. surprised the entire industry by announcing that the video game franchise Call of Duty has exceeded the three thousand billion in worldwide sales. Based on studies of NPD Group, Charttrack, GfK and internal, Activision said that since its launch in 2003, the franchise Call of Duty

has sold more than

55 million units

worldwide. < >

As you recall, the company launched the sixth title in the franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , a few weeks ago, breaking the all existing records by selling 4.7 million dollars in its first day in the U.S. and England. The numbers continue to grow, whereas the new video game grossed more than call-of-duty-2 $ 550 million call-of-duty-2 in the first five days on the market, which will change substantially in the coming weeks thanks to the holiday season.

In announcing these results, the CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, said that considering the number of hours players spend with games Call of Duty , we can say that these games are among the forms of Most viewed modern entertainment. To nobody’s surprise, shares of Activision rose over 1% in the last hours, a period in which the actions of its most important rival, Electronic Arts Inc. and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., fell more than 2%. Will be interesting to reexamine these figures as the industry settles down after the holidays.
